World Series Game 7 Attracts 51M Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japan Regions.

The exciting 11-inning contest that saw the Los Angeles Dodgers beat the Blue Jays by one run attracted a aggregate 51 million viewers in the US, Canada, and Japanese territories. Major League Baseball announced this represents the highest-rated World Series finale since the 1991 showdown featuring the Minnesota Twins and Atlanta Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s memorable contest secured 27.33 million viewers on Fox networks, its Spanish-language channel and their streaming platforms. Per Nielsen, it was the second most-watched broadcast of the week.

It also stands as the most-watched Fall Classic game since the 2017 Game 7 between the Dodgers and Astros, which averaged 29.07M. This represents a 16% increase compared to the last finale featuring the Washington Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19 million viewers.

In the Nielsen ratings, Game 6 placed fourth, the fourth game ranked seventh, the fifth game came in 8th, and Game 3 finished in thirteenth position.

International Audience Figures

In Canada, the climactic game recorded 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the most-watched English broadcast in the country after the 2010 edition Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the deciding game started at 9 PM local time, it drew 12 million. This followed the previous Friday’s sixth game – in which Fall Classic MVP Yamamoto gave up one run in six frames – recorded 13.1M spectators, making it the most-watched Fall Classic matchup on a sole broadcaster in the country.

Series Averages and Trends

The entire seven-game World Series recorded over 15.7 million audience members on Fox, a two percent rise from the previous year’s Dodgers-Yankees matchup. This marks the first time after 2015 and 2016 that the World Series has recorded viewership increases for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the complete American average reached 16.1M. The overall World Series average in the Japanese market was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in the Canadian market.

The complete playoffs on Fox, FS1 and FS2 recorded over 8 million watchers, an eight percent rise compared to the previous year and the network’s best postseason ratings since the 2017 season.

MLB stated that the World Series was televised in 203 countries and territories by forty-four broadcasting partners in sixteen different languages.
